BEHIND THE BRUSH

I'm Sam Brown and I am originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico. I graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 2014. I played volleyball for the Irish for three years before injuring my knee in the NCAA tournament. I needed a new passion and I quickly fell in love with painting! I took courses under professional artists, Maria Tomasula and Jason Lahr. They taught me amazing skills and motivated me to use oil and acrylic paints to create modern art.

 

Inspiration for my paintings comes from my surroundings. Hispanic traditions from New Mexico and sport obsessions at Notre Dame are just some of the examples found in my pieces. Bright compositions and cool vibes are inspired from my new hometown, Chicago. Vibrant colors, abstracted hard-edges, and minimalist designs are key characteristics of my artwork.
